Aloha Kakou,
I am writing in support of residents living in the Hilo and Kona areas and their attempts to live a peaceful life without being attacked by an excessive barrage of noisy tour helicopters. As a resident of the south shore of Oahu, I can attest that we have experienced helicopters disrupting our lives, interrupting our conversations, our meals, causing stress, disrupting our kupuna’s sleep and our right to live without noise pollution. Prior to the epidemic, in my area, we would have 10-12 or more helicopters low flying over our homes and parks seven days a week. Oahu experiences this on all parts of the island, from mauka to makai, diamond head to ewa. The epidemic has given us an opportunity to do a “reset” on the noise, safety, and health problems caused by helicopter tourism. Please stand up for the rights of local residents to have a peaceful life. Helicopter tourism is bad tourism. Let’s recognize this and stop allowing this invasive and unsafe form of tourism to have priority over the lives of residents. Mahalo, Jeanne
