My husband and I are both in our 70s and during the times when there was no lava flow or pandemic we suffered greatly from constant helicopter noise over our home in Lower Kaumana area from about 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. I kept a tally of flights and it was often up to as many as 35 to 40 during that period. It has been a tremendous relief not to endure this since last March but we are in dread of the same situation occurring once tourism picks up again. It is outrageous to think that the helicopter companies can destroy the peace of our neighborhoods and probably affect our health because of the nervous tension this noise produces. I do not believe that the helicopters fly at the height prescribed by the FAA for the noise factor is just too high.
