I am writing to continue my protest against the number of helicoptor tours taking place on Hawaii Island. I attended the meeting a year or so again and spoke at that meeting.
I live just up the Hamakua coast in Wainaku. I have a steady stream of Helicoptors near or over my property during high tourist seasons, or pretty much all year. Sometimes, as I stated at the meeting, I feel like I am in a scene from Apocolypse Now, with all of the helicoptor noise.
I, like many others, moved to Hilo for the quiet, small town atmosphere. I became a volunteer in many commuity organizations. I pay taxes to the state. These helicoptors have greatly disturbed the tranquility we once had ten years ago when we first built our home. The people flying the helicoptors do not pay taxes or have any investment in our community. They merely fly over it and make noise. It is unfair to those of us living here.
I believe the number of helicoptor companies should be greatly limited and that each company have a limit as to how many and how often their tours may run. I don’t believe I should have to deal with four or five helicoptors flying over my property or neighborhood, each of several hours each day.
